The Stain Remains
More than three months ago a man was lynched on the main street of Salisbury in the presence of hundreds, probably thousands, of townsmen.
Yesterday a grand jury, having heard more than a hundred witnesses, announced that "there is absolutely no evidence that can remotely connect anyone with the instigation and perpetration of the crime."
The disgrace of that atrocity is thus fixed for all time on the State of Maryland in general, on Wicomico county and particularly on the city of Salisbury.
The Grand Jury's report serves notice to the world that Governor Ritchie's Maryland is a State where lynchers may ply their trade with impunity.
