MENCKEN TAKES A TRIP
g to the celebrated Columnist, Arthur Brisbane, Mr. H. L. Mencken, who has been cussed and discussed very much lately, has gone abroad for his health. We hope his sudden departure was not accelerated by the probability of his being summoned before the Coroner's inquest at Salisbury to give evidence of the persons who lynched a man there recently.
Mencken said everybody knew who did it, and the foreman of the inquest wanted him to tell what he knew and what he had based his writings on. Mr. Mencken seems to be good at going abroad when he wants to get away from duty. Members of the American Legion say he found it convenient to go to his beloved Germany thirteen years ago when he was being assailed right and left for his traitorous writings.
Mr. Mencken, again, according to Mr. Brisbane, said before leaving on his trip: "I never speak of or to teetotalers."
He must be a very miserable man.
