One clergyman, Rev. Edward A. Daugherty, said. "I haven't anything to say to anybody from Baltimore," He stopped the brief conversation by hanging up the receiver of his telephone.
Louis Berger, leader of the Trade Union Unity League, Communist organization, sent the following telegram to Governor Ritchie in New York today:
"The workers assembled at the Tom Mooney House, commemorating the Paris commune, protest against your maneuvering to whitewash mob leaders who lynched Matthew Williams.
Want Mixed Jury
"The grand jury of rich. Eastern Shore citizens did everything possible to protect those responsible for the lynching. We demand that you investigate the death of Jacob Conquest, Negro eyewitness to the lynching, and the disappearance of Rufus Jernigan, also an eyewitness.
"We demand a new jury of white and Negro workers and poor farmers to investigate Sheriff and Chief of Police Holland and Daniel Elli-cott Jr., who were in the lynching mob."
