MOB HANGS WOUNDED KILLER, BURNS BODY

SALISBURY, Md., Dec. 4.—Maryland had its fourteenth lynching in forty-five years tonight. Mack Williams, 35, colored laborer, was routed from a hospital bed and strung up and burned in retaliation for his killing today of Daniel J. Elliott, his wealthy employer.
More than 300 persons stormed the Peninsula General Hospital, where Williams, his head swathed in bandages, was suffering from a wound inflicted by Elliott's son, James.
4> Without interference from officials, six men dragged Williams, who was unable to see because of the bandages, from his cot and hurled him to his executioners.
He was marched about a quarter of a mile to a lamp post in front of Courthouse Square, where 2,500 or more persons, including several women, had assembled. A noose was placed about his neck and a moment later he was lynched as the crowd cheered.

The body was then cut down and placed on a pile of boxes and kindling wood on the edge of the colored quarter of the city, where it was soaked with gasoline and burned. Serious disturbances in that quarter were expected.
