Body Will Take up County Finances After Reporting Investigation of Two Crimes
The county grand jury continued the examination of witnesses today and late this afternoon it became apparent a report may not be submitted before tomorrow in the jury's investigation of the two murders here on December 4 and communist activity preceding the crime.
The original list of witnesses was almost exhausted, though it is said additional time would be needed to recall some of those previously questioned.
Baltimore city detectives, brought here to conduct a quiet investigation, and sergeant M. D. Bmbaker, from sub-etation & of the State Police, were still waiting outside the grand jury room to ba called for examination.
Ninety-five of the 120 witnesses summoned had been heard when the jury recessed for the noon luncheon, completing two days of consideration of evidence.
While State's Attorney Bailey was occupied with the criminal docket in the court room this morning, Attorney General LaiK.- and Deputy Attorney General Anderson questioned the witnesses for the jurora up on the third floor of the court house.
State's Attorney Bailey said the letters of the board of county commissioners and County Treasurer Charles W. Bennett, inviting a thorough investigation of those departments had been delivered to the grand jury and would be taken up by that body immediately after the investigation now undeT way is completed.
The county board and the treasurer invited the probe after Judge Joseph L. Bailey, in charging the grand jury Monday, asserted a large sum of money was illegally levied and wastefully spent in the county during the past year.
The county prosecutor announced late yesterday that any witnesses have evidence that should be placed before the ^rand jury would be summoned, if requested.
