LANE AGAIN LEAVES FOR EASTERN SHORE
Confers With Wicomico County Prosecutor About Lynch Mob Before Departure
Attorney-General William P. Lane, Jr., today returned to Salisbury to renew his inquiry into the lynching there two weeks ago, in which a colored murderer was dragged from a hospital and hanged and burned by a mob.
Before he left Baltimore Mr. Lane held a last-minute consultation in his offices here with State's Attorney Levin C. Bailey, of Wicomico county. in whose jurisdiction the lynching occurred. The subject of their discussion was not disclosed and immediately after it Mr. Bailey also started for the Eastern Shore.
Probe Given Precedence Mr. Lane said that he was uncertain how long he would remain on the Shore. It was indicated that his office considers the investigation of the lynching the major matter before it and that other subjects will be subordinated until the inquiry is completed.
Mr. Lane spent two days at Salisbury earlier this week, interviewing county officials and persons who saw the mob during the lynching. The investigation was interrupted by Mr. Lane's appearance before the Court of Appeals to argue for the State in the appeal from the order of the Circuit Court for Worcester county setting Cambridge as the place of trial for Yuel Lee, alias Orphan Jones, colored farmhand accused of the murder of four persons. Deputy Attorney-General Willis R. Jones, who also took part in the Court of Appeals hearing and who has been (aiding Mr. Lane in the present in-'' vestigation, is confined to his home by an illness suffered after the hearing in Annapolis. Assistant Attorney-General G-. C. A. Anderson went to Salisbury with Mr. Lane.
