He Thanks God For Mencken To the Editor or The Evening Sun—Sir: Any person who does not condemn the Eastern Shore atrocity at Salisbury, Md.; that combined violation of the sanctuary of a hospital, desecration of the American flag twice and the brutal assassination of a wounded man in a straitjacket by a mad mob sans soul or sense has no claim to United States citizenship. If he does not express his horror for this vile act with its attendant outrageous exhibition of contempt for the recognized decencies of civilized society, that alleged man is morally and mentally unfit to reside in a law-abiding community. If he believes that it is right to hang and burn a human being who had not yet been proven guilty, he is'an anarchist and outlaw. If he is in accord with those fiends in human form who desecrated twice the American flag by tearing a wounded man from the shelter of its folds and then hanging him alongside an American flagpole in defiance of every principle of human right that the American emblem represent* then he is a man without a country, because no civilized nation would permit him to be a citizen. He is a political leper without the protection of any flag. His nation is assassination. Thank God for Mencken. Baltimore, Dec. 13. W. H. Loccf, Jr.
