One Issue
Testerday there were a score of issues involved in the sporadic outbreaks of mob spirit on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
Today there is only one. That issue is whether persons accused of crime on the Eastern Shore shall be tried before the judges and- in the courts which the Eastern Shore has set up for that purpose, or whether they shall be executed by mobs.
Governor Ritchie and his Attorney-General, Mr. Lane, have thus far striven valiantly to maintain the supremacy of the law. Their efforts have come to naught. A man has been seized by a mob, lynched and burned.
Now there remains but one course possible. The leaders of this mob must be arrested and put on trial. It must be that or else the judges and courts of the Eastern Shore are rendered impotent and ridiculous and mob law becomes the law of that land.
