GRAND JURY TO ACT ON SALISBURY LYNCHING Will Be Given Evidence As to Identity of Mob Leaders, By Attorney General BALTIMORE, Jan. 14 (^—Attorney General William P. Lane, Jr., today was reported to be planning to lay before the Wicomico county grand jury Wxt month evidence as to the identity of mob leaders responsible for the lynching of Matthew Williams, negro, at Salisbury, last December 4. The March term grand jury will be sworn into office late next month. Shortly after Williams was dragged from a Salisbury hospital bed and hung, Mr. Lane began an investigation, at Governor Ritchie's suggestion, to determine the identity of the mob leaders. Although he has persistently declined to reveal the progress of his investigation, he said today it has not been completed. Levin C. Bailey, state's attorney for Wicomico county, denied a special grand jury would be called to consider the lynching. Williams was hung and his body burned shortly after he had shot and killed his employer, Daniel EI-litt, lumber dealer of Salisbury, allegedly because of low wages.
