The action of the mob in Salisbury last Friday merits as sever condemnation as possible and we do not believe that its action is upheld by anyone. But we do not think that the entire Eastern Shore should be
condemned and blamed and paraded
t before the world in the manner in
which it has been by the Baltimore
Sun, for the action of this mob,
many of whom possibly were not
residents of this state.
There have been murders and criminals assaults before in this section of the state and the law has been allowed to take its course without any interference from the press of Baltimore or labor organizations of that city. We believe if the press of Baltimore had not made such * sensational stories of the Lee case and a Baltimore lawyer had not injected himself in this affair, this case would have been tried and disposed of by this time, and there would have been no mob violence any place.
The people of the Eastern Shore are as law abiding as those of any other part of the state and they resent and resent strongly the aspersions that have been heaped on them by the Baltimore Sun. i.:»|
The negrdes of §ueen Anne's county ar6 a peacable lot and live in harmony with the white people. What took place here last Saturday was enough to incite a riot. The town was startled by the sudden appearance of a Baltimore Sun News-wagon, from which several men jumped and started over the town crying extras and calling the attention of the people to the lynching of a negro, and exhibiting and selling the paper with great streamer headings about the matter. This may be good newspaper work for the city press but we do not think it adds much to the happiness of a community or aids in the furtherance of justice and good order. All we ask of the Baltimore press is to give us proper publicity and not to exploit unduly the crimes on the Eastern Shore any more than they do the banking and financial happenings in Baltimore City and we will see that justice is meted out properly to those accused of crimes and without mob violence. --------------------o---------¦
