Local Churches Criticize Council
That outstanding and fairminded Christian churchmen bitterly resent the activities of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America, as reflected in the survey made for this organization by Dr. Broadus Mitchell, of Baltimore, is emphasized by the following statements given out by pastors of two Centreville churches: By RET. Church Snch statements as were released by Dr. Broadus Mitchell through publicity sponsored by the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America, are perfectly ridiculous and absurd. The Council, in my opinion, is attempting to operate 'wholly outside of its proper realm. Such investigations and remarks must ultimately bring the organization into complete disrepute.
The long association of myself and thousands of others with the people of the Eastern Shore enables us to state with definite certainty and truthfulness that there is quite as much intellectual capacity and moral responsibility here as will be found in any community in America.
This unfavorable, unfair and untrue comment concerning the Eastern Shore should come to an end. »

Broadus Mitchell relative to the Salisbury lynching is of such a nature that it does infinitely more harm than good. He says that he visited Salisbury from Friday until Sunday. What a short time it takes for some men to grasp the mentality and spirituality of a people.
If Mr. Mitchell does not know any more about political economy (and obtained such knowledge in three days) that he knows about the Eastern Shore and the intelligence and morality of its people, then* he is zero. Yes, less than zero—he is a minus quantity. three days) than he knows about Churches of Christ in America would do well to hold its peace concerning snch statements as those of Dr. Mitchell and devote their time and talents to constructive criticism. No possible good can come out of such statements. We can attend to our own business here on the Shore without interference or meddling from either Dr. Mitchell or The Conn-
