ACTION ) _ Two days after 'the lynching of two men in West Virginia, thi-ee men ,were lodged in jail on charges of murder in connection with the lynching. That's in West Virginia. Two weeks ago one man was lynched in Maryland, and as yet no one has ever been accused of being present at the lynching party. That's in Maryland. The governor of the State of Maryland has ordered an investigation of the lynching. The investigation is still in progress and reporting action. West Virginia has set the example in bringing about some sort of action in its recent disgrace, and has made a*e" step forward in removing the blot of shame upon lyiysf(ing States. There is an anti-lynching law in West Virgjjna that fines each lynching county $5,000, and is probably me reason for their action. There is no such law in Maryland, and there has been no action in the prosecution of the perpetrators of the atrocious crime. There orta be a law, but there is not. Law or no law—there should^be action.
