When an Eastern Shore mob was threatening to harm State's Attorney Godfrey Child at Berlin the other day, members of the state police force protected him by arguing with the mob and then using tear gas bombs to drive back the advancing Eastern Shoremen. But a few months ago, when an Eastern Shore mob was lynching Matthew Williams, members of the state police force did nothing to protect him. During part of that riot, the state policemen quietly directed traffic.
