JURY NEAR END OF LYNM PROBE
Six Witnesses To Be Quizzed; Report Due by Night

SALISBURY —The Wicomico County grand jury's report on the lynching of Matthew Williams probably will be in the hands of Judge Joseph L. Bailey before night.
As the jury began its third day of the probe this morning there remained only six witnesses still to be examined out of the list of 125 from whom testimony has been sought.
It was believed probably they would be disposed of within the .first few hours today and that the jurors' deliberations would be completed by mid-afternoon.
First Official Action
The jury probe marks the first official action in connection with the lynching, which occurred Dec. 4 on the lawn of the Wicomico County Courthouse here.
Williams, a Negro who a few hours earlier had killed his white employer, was dragged from a hospital bed about 9 p. m„ made to walk six blocks through the streets and then hanged.
Later his body was soaked with gasoline and partly burned a few blocks from the scene of the hanging, after which a crowd dragged it down the principal street of Salisbury and tied it to a telegraph pole in the colored section of the city.
