The recent lynching on the Eastern (Lynching) Shore of Maryland was no flash in the pan. It has always been "funny that way."
Take for example one of its most distinguished white Republican citizens in public life, Mr. W. P. Jackson, until recently national committeeman for Maryland. "W. P." who always had his hand out for plums for whites only was as much of a lily white as Bascom Slemp in Virginia or Necktieless Joe Talbott in South Carolina.
Then there is U.S. Senator Phillips Lee Golds-borough who when governor of Maryland declined to appoint notary publics. A lily-white and Hoover "yes man" he voted for Judge Parker for the U.S. Supreme Bench.
Isolated by the Chesapeake Bay, the Shore has long been deserted by its most progressive element and those who remain, accustomed to taking orders, find themselves in the strange position of leadership.
Another index of Lynching Shore civilization is the average salaries paid school teachers in the county public schools.

A lynching area can be depended upon not only to murder colored people but to rob them of school funds.
The last day of the session of the Maryland legislature, it appeared certain that a majority of the state senators had decided to repeal the jim crow car law.
When the time came for the vote, it was discovered that the bill had been stolen. Mr. Manny Altfeld, state senator (Democrat), Fourth Baltimore district, alleged that the thief was an Eastern Shore senator.
Since the mob outburst early in December recurring attacks upon individuals have been reported.
In fact the discovery of a dead body near | the railroad in Salisbury the day after the mob burnt a human being leads to the theory that there was a double instead of a single lynching.
Calvin Coolidge's courageous handling of the Boston police strike helped the then governor of Massachusetts into the vice-presidential chair. ;
An unpunished outbreak of Eastern Shore savages not only embarrasses Governor Ritchie's campaign for the presidential nomination, but shames every citizen who claims Maryland as ' his laome.
