Philly Judge Urges Action on Maryland Lynching.
HONOR ELK DEAD
Both Lodge Hold Services Sunday.
"Keep your eyes on what Governor Ritchie does in the Salisbury lynching matter when you are thinking of him as presidential timber," Judge Edward W. Henry, of Philadelphia, told his hearers at the memorial services of the Monumental Lodge of Elks, Sunday evening,
"Every man in our group should let Governor Ritchie know that he is being closely watched to see whether he has done his duty in bringing the Salisbury mobbists to account," (he jurist said.
"Governor Ritchie has political ambitions for the presidency as has Governor Pinchot of my state, and, like Pinchot, Ritchie will listen to reason."
Referring to the economic situation, the judge said:
"I like not the word depression, for those depressed usually wind up in suicide. The word signifies a lack of religion and a loss of confidence. Believe in Self "I like to say that the world has not lost faith in us as long as we have not lost faith in ourselves." He concluded by pointing out that there were more men and women in the Elks than any similar organization in the world.
Tells Judge to Talk Judge Henry was introduced by Roy S. Bond, grand estemed loyal knight of the fraternity, who remarked that it was seldom that a lawyer got a chance to tell a judge to talk, as on this occasion. He added that we need a Henry in this State, especially now.
31st Memorial Elks and their visitors almost filled the auditorium of the Regent Theatre. The occasion was the 31st annual session of sorrow of Monumental Lodge and Great Southern Temple.
Other participants were: Truly Hatchett, exalted ruler and grand regional director; Mrs. Martenia Johnson, daughter ruler of the temple; the junior Elks' choir; the,senior Elks' choir; Isaiah Thompson, organist; George Hilde, master of ceremonies.
