In 1961 I researched and wrote my first prize winning essay on local history. It focused on the introduction of Rural Free Delivery in Macedon, New York. It was based upon interviews of Mail Carriers and on my first research foray to the National Archives in Washington, D. C. The tape recordings still exist along with my trusty Wollensak tape recorder which is still in working condition. Unfortunately the tapes are brittle and steadily deteriorating.
