The initial goal of this research project is to determine who in the Black community were directly affected by the Influenza Pandemic of 1918_1919. Who died as a result of contracting the flu? Where did they live and work in the city. Where were they buried and what impact did their deaths have on their families and their community?

In order to identify who these victims were, where they lived in the city, and an indication of their origins and immediate family, the public health records of Baltimore, specifically the death records, provide a starting point.
